Flying drones at Flinders

There have been recent changes to Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) rules surrounding the flying of drones that could affect University staff.

Pilots
All drone pilots must have an individual ARN and complete the CASA RPA operator accreditation. For pilots who previously completed the Flinders University Drone Induction Course on FLO, this is no longer valid and has been replaced by the mandatory CASA RPA operator accreditation. If you hold a RePL, you do not need to complete the operator accreditation.

Aircraft
All aircraft being flown for the University or during University events (including the use of personal drones) must be registered with CASA. All flight plans must adhere to CASA’s Standard Operating Conditions (SOC). To fly outside of these conditions a pilot must have a RePL and fly under a ReOC.

Flinders University requires its colleges to maintain a register of pilots and drones owned and operated by college staff. Pilots need to provide their ARN and RPA operator accreditation certificate or RePL to the college. For any work area that holds drones, these details also need to be provided.
