Alliance aims to promote understanding

Temporary Visa Academic Alliance is a new group that has been formed by Flinders postdoctoral researcher Dr Marta Gabryelska to fill a gap that exists in the Australian support system.

Dr Gabryelska, who is working at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer, says the new group wants to provide help, encouragement and understanding to all academic members about the status of Temporary Visa holder (or any other restrictive immigration status) in Australia.

“We are aiming at sharing and discussing our situation, including differences and discrimination in medical care, additional high payments for government school for our children, barriers in access to finance, and limitations in terms of eligibility for application for grant funding and other daily life and professional matters,” says Dr Gabryelska.

Dr Gabryelska says the alliance is welcoming new members who would like to make a difference, and also people who need support and advice that they can’t access anywhere else. The group can be contacted via email: tvaa.academics@gmail.com or Twitter: @AcademicsTvaa.
