New scientific director at The Raine Study

The Raine Study has appointed Associate Professor Rebecca Glauert from Telethon Kids Institute as its new Scientific Director, succeeding Curtin University’s Professor Leon Straker.

The Raine Study features one of the largest prospective research cohorts for pregnancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood anywhere in the world, and Flinders University is an associate partner, affording access to rich longitudinal data.

A long-time collaborator with the Raine Study, Associate Professor Glauert’s new role is in addition to her ongoing work at Telethon Kids, where she is Head of the Developmental Pathways and Social Policy team and leads the Developmental Pathways in WA Children Project (DPP).

She is recognised internationally as an expert in data linkage and using this information to inform, evaluate and improve health policy and practice.

Associate Professor Glauert is very enthusiastic about the opportunity to connect three decades of Raine Study data with other Australian public health data, to better demonstrate the impact that the Raine Study has had in the last 30 years, and will have into the future as it continues to explore how environment and events from the womb onwards affect health outcomes in later life.

The Perth based Raine Study is a joint venture between The University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Telethon Kids Institute, Women and Infants Research Foundation, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The University of Notre Dame Australia. Flinders University in South Australia and Newcastle University in New South Wales are Institutional Partners, and the study receives additional funding support from the Raine Medical Research Foundation and the National Health and Medical Research Council.
