How to be a bigger part of The Conversation

Professor John Long has passed more than two million reads of his articles published by The Conversation, with his most recent story Making a megalodon: the evolving science behind estimating the size of the largest ever killer shark having attracted more than 33,000 views.

To make sure your pitch is directed to the right people within The Conversation’s editorial team, note that two new members have been appointed to The Conversation’s editorial team. Adding to the team of longstanding section editors is Carissa Lee, the new Commissioning Editor for Indigenous and Public Policy. Carissa is a Noongar writer, editor and actor born on Wemba-Wemba country, based in Naarm (Melbourne). Chynthia Wijay is the new Deputy Editor, Multimedia, having previously worked in video production and editing.

To get your stories published, be sure to let The Conversation know about your research in advance. Its editors are unlikely to accept a story if they receive a press release first. However, if you know research is going to be published a couple of weeks in advance, let The Conversation know and its editors may organise a story to run concurrently in The Conversation which can then be linked to your media release. Note that the website’s Health and Science editors are particularly keen to hear about major research.
