Examining young people and homelessness

As the number of homeless families increases, it’s time for experts to look at the impact this is having on children and young people. This is why the next Youth Policy Forum on Wednesday 2 June – organised by the Commissioner For Children And Young People in conjunction with Flinders University’s College of Education, Psychology and Social Work – is focused on “Young People and Homelessness: Policy Considerations for Schools”.

This forum will explore how this issue of family homelessness is playing out in schools and examine the support available to keep homeless students connected to school and learning. The speakers will examine critical issues faced by young people and how all stakeholders can work together to respond to the challenges.

Keynote speaker will be David Pearson, CEO at Australian Alliance to End Homelessness, followed by Q&A session with a stakeholder panel including Trish Hall (Senior Advisor, Attendance and Engagement at Department for Education), Ian Cox (Head of Office for Homelessness Sector Integration at SA Housing Authority) and Deborah Lockwood (General Manager Children’s Services at Relationships Australia).

Moderated by the Commissioner for Children and Young People, Helen Connolly, the forum is designed to cater for a broad audience of educators, youth workers, policy makers, researchers, advocates and service providers.

Confirm your attendance for this important event on Wednesday, 2 June, with an online registrations via Eventbrite. It is advised to book early, as the previous Youth Policy Forum event filled quickly. Refreshments will be served from 4:30pm for a 5pm start.
