Maximise your research reach through media

Using the media effectively helps to gain wider acknowledgement and understanding of your research publications while elevating your profile as an expert in your field – and Flinders University’s media team is presenting a series of online webinars to provide tips and strategies that will help improve your media presence.

On Wednesday 16 June at 9.30am, a webinar will examine how best to promote publications and build a research brand – presented by Karen Ashford, Director, Media and Communications, and with Liz Walkley Hall, Flinders Associate Librarian who leads the Academic Engagement Team. They will guide individual researchers in developing a strategy and using teamwork to help increase the impact of their research outputs – especially through engaging with the Flinders media team and using online tools. On Tuesday 29 June at 10am, The Conversation Editor Jane Howard will present a web training session that will cover how to write for The Conversation’s non-academic readership, identify what sorts of ideas the editors are seeking and how to pitch an idea that can lead to a commissioned article. Social Media for Researchers – a webinar on Wednesday 28 July at 10am – will be presented by Karen Ashford, who will give an overview of different social media platforms and discuss how to harness social media to promote your research. The session will also investigate how to effectively engage with audiences to build an following as well as using social media for research impact.
