Fearlessly improving wineries and tourism

Challenges for the wine and tourism industries in South Australia will be the focus of the next Fearless Conversation, bringing leading industry experts together to discuss pressing issues that are facing our society.

For tomorrow’s online discussion – being held from 10am until noon, broadcast from Flinders Victoria Square – Flinders University’s Professor of Business Management Roberta Crouch will be joined by Oliver’s Taranga winemaker Corrina Wright, Wirra Wirra Vineyards CEO Andrew Kay and Phil Hoffman Travel CEO Peter Williams.

Hosted by The Advertiser journalist Brad Crouch, the panel will also look at the importance of SA’s clean image for international wine markets, the two-speed tourism economy and whether COVID-19 passports will be inevitable for tourism businesses.

Ms Wright describes the past few years in the wine industry as being “the most challenging in living memory”.

“We’ve had some tough vintages – 2019 and 2020 were low-cropping vintages in drought years – so there was that to deal with,” she says.

“We’ve also had China putting tariffs on Australian wine, leaving some growers exposed, and then COVID-19.”

The Fearless Conversations are running across a 13-week campaign, bringing together leading South Australian voices in roundtable discussions that aim to encourage people to share their thoughts, opinions and ideas on key growth areas. The online events embrace a fearless approach to create solutions that will drive South Australia forward, both now and into the future.
