Creativity the key to a Fearless future

South Australia’s reputation as the festival state will placed be under the microscope for the next edition of Fearless Conversations, to be held on Wednesday 10 November at 10.30am.

Garry Stewart, Director of Flinders University’s Assemblage Centre for Creative Arts, will be joined in this round table discussion by Heather Croall, Director of Adelaide Fringe; Douglas Gautier, Adelaide Festival Centre Chief Executive and Artistic Director, and Kate Croser, South Australian Film Corporation Chief Executive.

Mr Stewart says SA is known as the festival state due to many factors, and not just the number of festivals we hold.

“Every city today has its own festival or multiple festivals but I think what distinguishes Adelaide is the impact the many local festivals have on the community, given we’re a small state in terms of population,” says Mr Stewart.

“It’s not a bad moniker to hold on to and aspire towards but we also need to think about the local arts organisations making work that isn’t necessarily within the festival context.”

Co-hosted by The Advertiser arts writers Patrick McDonald and Anna Vlach, the panel will also discuss the impact COVID-19 has had on creative industries, how the state can branch out from the concentration of events during Mad March, the future of the South Australian film industry and the need for new performing arts venues.
