A new era for Pride at Flinders

Flinders University is excited to re-launch the University’s ally network, after changes during 2021 have resulted in an updated structure and a new name – Flinders University Pride Network.

To coincide with International Transgender Day of Visibility, the new Flinders University Pride Network will be launched this week – on Thursday, 31 March.

Christian Grocke, member of the Pride Network Working Group and a Pride Network member, says that  relaunching the Pride Network on the Transgender Day of Visibility marks a significant step towards supporting Flinders’ diverse population of staff and students, through heightening awareness of this important day.

“Relaunching the Pride network is about recognising our diverse LGBTQIA+ community within Flinders University and providing a space for everyone to feel valued – regardless of their gender, sexuality or identity,” says Mr Grocke.

The re-energised Flinders University Pride Network aims to progress and grow a safe and welcoming university environment for all members of our community. The Network will work to proactively deal with prejudicial language and behaviour, to ensure an inclusive education experience for all staff, students and visitors.

“The Pride Network will educate the broader community about the diversity that exists in the world surrounding sex, gender, sexuality and identity, and through working together we will create an inclusive and supportive environment,” says Mr Grocke. “We want to help our community feel a sense of belonging on- and off-campus, and work collectively to celebrate our differences and welcome each other.”

The Flinders University Pride Network is committed to establishing a university that promotes inclusion, opportunity and safety for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Stay tuned for an official announcement on Thursday 31 March, which will provide further information for both staff and students about how to join the new Pride Network.
