Sweet treats fuel NAIDOC Week celebrations

The theme of NAIDOC Week 2022 was Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up – and it was heartening to see more than 100 staff and students ‘show up’ for Flinders University’s NAIDOC celebrations on Tuesday 5 July.

NAIDOC Week, the annual national celebration of the  National Aborigines and Islander Day Observance Committee, is a celebration to honour and acknowledge the world’s oldest, continuous living culture, so it was wonderful to see so many Flinders people ‘show up’ to enjoy this event.

Flinders University’s Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement organised for people in The Hub at Bedford Park to participate in Indigenous rock painting, and to enjoy a delicious donut decorated in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander colours.

Part-proceeds from the University’s purchase of the special donuts (created and provided by Vili’s Bakery will go to the Tjindu Foundation, which supports cultural education and success in schooling for Aboriginal children across South Australia.
