Testing at Tonsley and works at Sturt

Works around campus this week include ground investigation around the HMBR construction site, annual RCD testing at Tonsley, and upgrade works across Sturt campus.

Ground investigation works at HMRB construction site

Ground investigation works will occur around the Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) construction site between 7am and 5pm from Wednesday 20 July to Friday 22 July, weather permitting. This work will investigate the installation of infrastructure for HMRB services and future projects.

Affected areas will include University Drive, Sports Road, the entry to car park 12, the access road to University Hall, and the upper level of the Oval between the construction site and Sturt Road, including spaces adjacent to the Pavilion. All affected spaces will be fenced off and pedestrians are encouraged to take alternative routes around the work sites.

Traffic management and reduced speed limits will be in place during the works. Traffic on University Drive be reduced to one lane at times.

Annual RCD testing at Tonsley building

The switchboards for Tonsley T1 and Pods will undergo essential RCD testing on Saturday 23 July from 7.30 to 5pm. This includes the Pods but excludes Line Zero and the Digital Transformation Lab.

Each floor will experience a power interruption of a few seconds during testing. Lighting, lifts and emergency systems will not be affected. The level 5 freezers and clean room, ground floor Imaging lab and comms equipment on UPS will also not be impacted.

As a precaution, please switch off any electrical equipment on Friday 22 July when you leave the building. There will be an electrician at Tonsley on Monday 25 July to provide support if needed.

If working in the space at this time, please ensure that you save your work regularly.

Upcoming works in Sturt

Several areas across the Sturt campus will undergo upgrades from the end of July until the start of teaching next year, including refurbishments to offices, teaching space and labs.

These projects will bring a range of benefits to the Flinders community at Sturt including:

  • Activating vacant spaces in Sturt South, providing HDR students with spaces conducive to their needs
  • Updating and refreshing student spaces for Sturt HDR students and Library users
  • Updating and refreshing spaces to provide additional accommodation for research staff
  • Creating additional open, flexible space for Physiotherapy practical teaching on Sturt campus, bringing Physio pracs together on one campus
  • Improvements to Exercise Science teaching and lab spaces.

Staff and students in these spaces will be kept up to date as upgrades continue.
