Fearless Minds unravel visceral pain pathways

Dr Andrea Harrington explores abnormal visceral pain, such as irritable bowel syndrome and pelvic pain, in the latest edition of Fearless Minds – and explains how such pain can affect a person’s quality of life.

Dr Harrington is a Senior Research Fellow from the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute, based in the Visceral Pain Research Group. Her laboratory-based research focuses on identifying the neural circuits in the spinal cord and brain that receive pain signalling from our visceral organs.

In her Fearless Minds episode, Dr Harrington delves into the topic of visceral pain and the neural pathways that control how we detect and feel pain from our internal, visceral organs.
