Indigenous Media Mentoring returns for 2023

Indigenous STEM researchers from around Australia are invited to register their interest for the 2023 Indigenous Media Mentoring Program (IMMP), comprising two days of intensive media training with National Indigenous Television (NITV-SBS) at the SBS studios in Sydney.

The training, which will take place on 15 and 16 of February 2023 and is provided through the Australian Science Media Centre (AusSMC), will include:

  • Practical skills for TV, radio and print media
  • Guided discussions on the challenges and opportunities through being an Indigenous research voice in the media.
  • Advice on how best to navigate the media landscape.

The mentoring program also provides ongoing opportunities to build a media profile through avenues such as AusSMC’s science news portal (Scimex.org), the Australian Academy of Science and its network of science journalists. AusSMC also offers optional media placements with media partners including The Conversation, The Sydney Morning Herald and NITV/SBS

The closing date for expressions of interest for the 2023 IMMP is Monday 5 December 2022. For more information about the program, click here.

If you would like to take part in this opportunity, send through an up-to-date CV and short paragraph about yourself and your research interests to immp@smc.org.au.
