Professor Danny Eckert, FHMRI Sleep Health co-director, has been made a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of sleep health research.

Dr Bastien Lechat

The AASM honour, which will be officially presented at the US SLEEP 2023 conference in June, coincides with the American Sleep Academy awarding another Flinders University postdoctoral sleep researcher, Dr Bastien Lechat, with a 2023 Trainee Investigator Honourable Mention for his study “Difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep is associated with increased blood pressure in people with obstructive sleep apnea,” which he will be presenting at the US conference in June.

Professor Eckert, Dr Lechat, Dr Hannah Scott and other researchers are due to publish a major article on the risks of irregular sleep in an international journal this month.

Dr Lechat received a US$1,000 New Investigator Award after joining other FHMRI Sleep Health researchers presenting at the recent International Sleep and Breathing Conference in Auckland, New Zealand. His abstract covered “Wasted effort: Quantification of flow limitation in obstructive sleep apnoea”.
