Power outages, traffic management on campus

Planned power outages across campus will occur on the weekend of Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 April, while lane closures on University Drive have been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Reminder – planned April power outage at Bedford Park

A temporary high-voltage power shut down is required to some areas of the Bedford Park campus during April as the Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) is connected to the power grid.

This work will involve two x 60-minute campus outages, anticipated for:

  • 7-8am Saturday 15 April 2023.
  • 3-4pm Sunday 16 April 2023.

Buildings affected during these periods will be:

  • Education
  • Law & Commerce
  • Social Sciences South
  • Pendopo
  • Social Sciences North
  • Humanities
  • Oasis
  • Drama Centre
  • Matthew Flinders Theatre
  • Flinders Connect
  • Library (Central & Law)
  • Student Hub (including RDS, FUSA and Flinders International)
  • Professional Services
  • Registry
  • Yungkurrinthi
  • Health, Counselling and Disability
  • Health Sciences
  • Alan Mitchell Sports Centre
  • Sports Pavilion
  • Health Sciences Lecture Theatre
  • Flinders Living (including University Hall)

During that weekend, there may also be further power outages to buildings on the North and South Ridges due to load shedding requirements.

Please note:

  • Traffic management will be in place at the intersection of University Drive and Sturt Drive due to traffic light outage.
  • Please make people in your areas aware of the outage. Signage will be posted in the coming weeks.
  • Please consider any booked events (such as functions, sports events or classes held by external parties) and contact the organisers to arrange alternatives or postponement.
  • If relevant, please clarify with staff which power sources are connected to a back-up generator (noting red versus white power switches)
  • Back-up generators will also be provided to Flinders Living during the two x 60-minute shutdowns to reduce impact on students’ accommodation.

Please get in touch with us via HMRB@flinders.edu.au or lodge a Service One request if you have any events or power sensitive equipment or research that is taking place in the affected areas during these periods.

Traffic management update: University Drive and Sports Road

Due to unexpected circumstances, the current lane closures on University Drive, including the turning restrictions onto Sports Road, have been extended. We are working to reopen both lanes as soon as works are complete.

Please take additional care driving through this area, particularly while workers are on site. Please drive to the conditions, and obey all speed restrictions and traffic controls.

Thank you again for your patience as we work to connect our new Health and Medical Research Building to essential services.
