Darwin Elder Uncle Richard “Richie” Fejo

Larrakia Elder and Flinders University Senior Elder on Campus Dr Uncle Richard ‘Balang/Japaljarri’ Fejo has been appointed to the board of the National Disability Insurance Agency, which runs the $34 billion-a-year NDIS. Uncle Richie’s appointment makes him the inaugural First Nations representative on the board of the NDIA. Uncle Richie is one of two new appointments to the 12-member board, joining West Australian disability advocate Joan McKenna Kerr as the newest members.

Space expert named among Australia’s best

Flinders University space archaeologist Associate Professor Alice Gorman, AKA Dr Space Junk, has been named a finalist in the Australian Space Awards 2023. The Australian Space Awards are the benchmark for excellence in the field of space, and recognises the leading individuals and business driving the development of Australia’s growing space industry. The award winners will be announced at an award ceremony on Wednesday 17 May.

Protecting end-of-life care

The Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death and Dying (RePaDD) were recently commissioned by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) to inform and update the National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe and high-quality end-of-life care beyond acute care and during a pandemic.

With a particular focus on end-of-life-care for Australians living in residential aged care or receiving aged care services in the community, the review also included a supplement relating to care during the pandemic.
