A message from the Vice-Chancellor and the NTEU

Constructive bargaining has seen in-principle agreement reached for a new enterprise agreement, which will be put to a staff vote in coming weeks.

Dear colleagues

We are very pleased to advise that following a collegial and constructive enterprise bargaining process, the University and the NTEU have now reached in-principle agreement on all matters for a new enterprise agreement and work is now underway to finalise in preparation for a staff vote in the coming weeks.

The agreement includes an initial 4.6% salary increase, and 13.2% increase over the life of the agreement.

In addition to the salary rise, casuals would receive a $5 increase (10.4%) in the main marking rate.

The agreement includes new provisions that will see the conversion of more casual staff to continuing positions.

Furthermore, it respects and supports diversity and inclusion, with increased parental leave provisions, new gender affirmation leave provisions, and elevated representation, participation and career development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

Importantly, the agreement also clearly defines and protects academic and intellectual freedoms and provides greater clarity on the implementation of academic workload models.

Before a full vote of staff, the NTEU will recommend the in-principle agreement to its members through the union’s internal deliberative processes.

We jointly thank staff and union delegates for their collaborative approach to the bargaining process which has enabled an outcome to be achieved in a timely manner.

Full details of the new agreement, including a schedule of changes, will be circulated for consideration before being put to a staff vote.

Regards,
