Learning opportunity for STEM superstars

Science and Technology Australia held a workshop in Sydney on 2 and 3 May for its Superstars of STEM program, a government-funded initiative to promote women and non-binary experts in science, technology, engineering and maths. Among this year’s cohort are Dr Kelsi Dodds and Dr Dhani Dharmaprani, both from the College of Medicine and Public Health. During the workshop, the two Flinders participants were given an opportunity to learn communication skills from two TEDx curators and visit the Google head office.

Larson Fellowship to help ambitious film project

Bryce Kraehenbuehl

Bryce Kraehenbuehl is the winner of this year’s Hanlon Larsen Screen Fellowship (HLSF), which provides prize money to assist in the creation and delivery of Bryce’s ambitious experimental screen-based project, Red Earth. For this, Bryce will travel to endangered ecosystems around South Australia and photograph them on Aerochrome, an extinct film stock, to showcase environments in a previously unseen way.
The HLSF was established in honour of the late Cole Larsen, a Flinders Screen Lecturer and is a collaboration between Flinders University, Mercury Cinema, Adelaide Film Festival and Light Studio. You can learn more about the Fellowship by clicking here.

Global presentations by our nursing experts

Dr Joyce Ramos

Experts from the college of Nursing and Health Sciences will soon be treading the world stage with presentations at leading international conferences. Dr Joyce Ramos will be presenting a poster at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) 2023 Congress (in Denver, Colorado, from 30 May to 3 June) on “A Preliminary-analysis Investigating The Web-based Cardiac Rehabilitation Needs And Preferences Of Women In Rural Australia”.

Professor Robyn Clark will be presenting two paper at the Annual Congress of the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professionals (ACNAP) 2023 Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland (on 23-24 June), on behalf of Dr Alline Beleigoli and Ms Katie Nesbitt. on ‘Completion of cardiac rehabilitation leads to improved clinical outcomes in 10,954 patients within 365 days following an acute coronary syndrome or revascularization procedure admission’ and ‘Cardiovascular disease patient reported experiences with a web-based, interactive, clinically integrated cardiac rehabilitation program’ in the UK. Professor Jeroen Hendriks will also be delivering a pre-conference workshop and will be a Twitter ambassador for this event.

In August, Professors Clark and Hendriks will attend the European Society of Cardiology (ESC)  Congress 23 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with Professor Clark chairing an AI session and Prof Hendriks presenting two invited talks.
