Flinders Elder on Campus Uncle Richie Fejo (Larrakia) and Senior Kaurna man Uncle Mickey O’Brien will be presenting a series of in-person, cultural storytelling sessions – and everyone at Flinders is invited to attend.

As a part of Flinders University’s student NAIDOC celebrations, these live storytelling sessions, focusing on creation stories while sharing cultural knowledge and the wisdom of the Elders, will take place on Tuesday 1 August, on campuses in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

This unique event will take place live and online, with the live sessions occurring in the VC Congress room in Darwin CDU campus, on Larrakia Country, at 11 am and in the Oasis Common room at Bedford Park Campus, on Kaurna Yarta, at 2pm.

Each live session will be simultaneously streamed, which will enable Flinders’ Alice Springs cohort on Mparntwe Country to watch all sessions in the CRH Lecture Rooms 1 & 2, or from their own devices.

For millennia, First Nations people across the globe have observed and gathered knowledge, and in doing so have learned to respect and care for their surroundings. As wise and respected Senior Elder Uncle Lewis Yarluburka O’Brien explains, “you must walk Country to know Country”.

Everyone, from First Nations to new nations peoples, can observe, listen, and learn from country, the animals and plants and the environment around us, so please join us for this unique event and celebrate the wisdom of Australia’s First Nations people.
