Presidential award for Flinders dietician
Work Integrated Learning Support Officer (CEPSW) Hannah Rohrlach has been awarded the 2023 President’s Award for Innovation by Dietitians Australia. This award recognises innovation amongst members of Dietitians Australia. This award is presented to one individual each year by the President and is in memory of Josephine Rogers AM, a pioneer of dietetics in Australia. After completing a Bachelor of Nutrition & Dietetics, Hannah has since worked on various projects to engage with the community on better nutrition and as well as provide innovative dining experiences through Post Dining, where she is Co-Founder and Director. Hannah also works to organise placements for students across Education, Psychology and the Sport, Health and Physical Activity.
Facilitating sustainable employment
A new partnership with Endeavour Foundation has helped Flinders University academics launch a new toolkit to assist hospitality SMEs on employing persons with an intellectual disability. The toolkit provides practical guidance and resources to help hospitality SMEs create more inclusive workplaces, and was supported by the Australian Hotels Association (South Australia) and Clubs SA. The Toolkit was launched by Mr. Eric Teed, Executive General Manager – Work, Endeavour Foundation, Brisbane. The Australian Hotels Association (South Australia) and the Clubs SA supported the project.
National questionnaires to help improve aged care
The Flinders Aged Care Food and Nutrition Research Team, including Dr Alison Yaxley, Dr Morgan Pankhurst and Professor Michelle Miller, has been awarded funding to allow all 2,700 aged care home across Australia to administer three food service satisfaction questionnaires. Thanks to funding from the Maggie Beer Foundation as part of the Improving Food in Aged Care, through Education and Training funding from the Department of Health and Aged Care, the roll-out will begin immediately, with questionnaires being made available until the end of 2023. The questionnaires can be requested via the Caring Futures Institute website.
