Flinders turns purple

There was a sea of purple across Flinders last week as we celebrated Wear It Purple Day to show to young LGBTQIA+ people that they are accepted and supported to be who they are here at Flinders.

On Thursday, FUSA hosted a fair on the Ground Floor of the Student Hub featuring stalls run by LGBTQIA+ groups and businesses. Students could also make their own bracelets at a jewellery-making stations and grabbed one of the purple-hued cookies on offer to acknowledge the day.

On Friday, staff across Flinders donned their best purple outfits to showcase that Flinders is a safe and supportive environment. A morning tea held in the Professional Services Building was attended by team members from Corporate Services, the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement, the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and members of Senior Executive.

The Library encouraged people to write their own stories on Wear It Purple Day

The Library Team were decked out in every shade of purple, and held a stall for staff and students to write their own stories, in line with this year’s theme for Wear It Purple Day, in the hopes of encouraging young people to embrace their unique perpsectives and to share their stories with others.

Thank you to everyone who took part in acknowledging and celebrating Wear It Purple Day at Flinders in 2023, and for helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for all members of our community.
