Boosting disability and inclusion studies

Flinders University joins the University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia and Tabor College in promoting better preparation of teachers for diverse classrooms, as part of a nation-leading project funded by the South Australian Government.

From semester 1 2024, South Australian universities will boost disability and inclusion studies in teaching degrees. A two-year research program will assess the impact of incorporating further learning on autism and the ability of teachers to plan for and manage diverse classrooms.

Flinders, which already delivers Inclusive and Specialised Education degrees, will incorporate findings from the research project into its curriculum.

The State Government will also include a rollout of Positive Partnership practical autism training for all university students from semester 2 next year – a welcome development after Flinders University education students became the first university students in Australia to take part in this training last month.
