Drawing from ancient history

‘Geo-picks, acid, pixels and paint brushes’ is the title of this year’s Flinders University Wells Annual Lecture in Palaeontology being held on 11 October.

Wildlife and palaeo-artist Peter Trusler will be guest speaker at the annual lecture, which celebrates the fossil recording achievements of Flinders Professor Rod Wells and the University’s leading palaeontology education and research.

Flinders University scientific illustration teacher Dr Trusler has a lifetime’s body of work which includes detailed illustrations of reconstruction art of Pleistocene and Ediacaran Australian and other countries’ prehistoric faunas.

His illustrations have appeared in a wide range of scientific publications, museum exhibits and documentaries, and he has also illustrated Australia Post stamps with a series of images entitled Australian Dinosaurs, Megafauna and Creatures of Slime.

The annual fundraising event for the Flinders Palaeo Lab, with support from the Flinders University Palaeontology Society, will be held at the Science Innovation Learning Centre at Bedford Park campus tomorrow (11 October) from 6pm-8.30pm. Bookings here
