Celebrating our newest graduates

Last week, we held our annual December graduation ceremonies in the Northern Territory and South Australia to celebrate the latest group of Flinders University graduates.

The Northern Territory graduation ceremony, held on Tuesday 12 December, was particularly special, as the first four graduates of Flinders’ paramedicine course – taught exclusively in the NT – walked across the stage to accept their degrees from Chancellor John Hood. It was also a special occasion for Chancellor Hood, with the Darwin ceremony his first as Chancellor of Flinders University.

A Flinders alum, Chancellor Hood congratulated the graduates on their success and spoke about the power of a Flinders’ degree.

“As a fellow graduate, I can say with personal experience that your time at Flinders will serve you well into the future, wherever your lives may lead,” he said.

“Flinders graduates are fearlessly embracing the unknown to inspire people around the globe.”

Chancellor Hood was joined by President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling, Dean of Rural and Remote Health Professor Robyn Aitken and staff from South Australia and the Northern Territory to celebrate the 33 students who all received their degrees at the Darwin ceremony. You can read more about the ceremony here, or check out the ABC News article.

The CNHS graduation had a special guest after the ceremony!

The graduation celebrations continued in South Australia on Thursday and Friday, as more than 1,700 students graced the stage over the two days. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences ceremony even had some special four-legged guests who joined in on the celebrations.

Joined by staff, friends and family, the latest group of Flinders University graduates were officially welcomed to Flinders’ alumni network by Professor Stirling.

“I am delighted to be the first to offer congratulations to our newest graduates on their incredible achievements,” he said.

“Flinders has always aimed to change lives and change the world, and we see this mission reflected in the qualities of our graduates. Your education has equipped you not only with a body of knowledge and skills but also with the ability to think critically, analyse problems, and challenge conventional wisdom. Now it is time for you to apply your knowledge, your problem-solving capacity, to use your ability to collaborate and communicate, and to lead.”
