Flinders staff get access to Copilot

Flinders University staff now have access to Copilot, Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool. Copilot provides an innovative, secure AI tool to enhance productivity and creativity while also providing important data protection.

Copilot is Flinders’ approved AI tool ensuring that our data and University remains safe. Other AI tools that you may have used cannot provide this level of security which is why the university has chosen Copilot.

Copilot can help make your day-to-day tasks more efficient and improve productivity, freeing time to focus on high-impact work. It can also:

  • Quickly make sense of long web pages, PDFs and other documents.
  • Craft and polish writing and communication to suit your needs.
  • Create images for articles, social media and more.

Copilot is currently only available for staff and is not yet available for students. Consultations with the academic community will continue to gather feedback to inform an approach that ensures Copilot is used in a way that respects academic integrity and supports student learning before it is made available to students.

To start using Microsoft Copilot, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Use Microsoft Edge to get the best experience (but if you prefer you can also use Google Chrome).
  2. Go to https://copilot.microsoft.com.
  3. Sign in using your Flinders University login details. You will then have full access to the data protection benefits. You should also see an image showing that your data is protected.
  4. Start using Copilot by typing in the chat box. You can ask questions, request information, generate content, or chat with Copilot.

Important reminder: As with any tool available at Flinders University, please be aware of relevant policies that govern the content you are using or creating through using Copilot. You can review these policies on the Flinders University website.

As you use Copilot in your day-to-day-work, share your feedback via the Copilot Feedback Form.

If you have any questions or need help with Copilot, please contact the Information and Digital Services (IDS) Service Desk on 8201 2345.
