Keep an eye out for campus works

University Drive Traffic Lights – Saturday 23 March

Electrical works taking place on Saturday 23 March will require that the traffic lights at the intersection of University Drive and Sturt Road will not be working. Traffic management, including lane restrictions, will be in place. If you are in the area on Saturday, please be aware and follow traffic diversions.

Car Park 7 is closed

Car Park 7 will be the site of three separate construction projects over the next few months: Roof Renewal Physical Sciences Stage 1, Stormwater Upgrade, Biology Building Transformer Upgrade, and Undergraduate Science Labs Stage 2, Physical Sciences. There will be increased heavy vehicle traffic through this area and, at times, it will be closed to students and staff. Access and restricted areas will change as works progress, so be sure to check for updates.

Stormwater upgrade for the Physical Sciences Building

Stage 1 of the Physical Sciences Roof Renewal project includes upgrading stormwater services for the building. This will involve trenching sections around the perimeter of the building, and contractors will start digging this week in Car Park 7, working their way around to the pedestrian path between the car park and Anchor Court. This will be noisy work.

Biology Building transformer upgrade

On Thursday 4 April, a crane will be in Car Park 7 to lift a new transformer onto a concrete pad, in preparation for installation and commissioning later in the year.

Undergraduate Science Labs, Physical Science Buildings

Demolition will start on the ground floor of the western wing of the Physical Sciences Building in the next few weeks. The project will create a large dry lab space for up to 40 students and, together with previous projects, activate this precinct as an undergraduate science hub. Please be aware that this work will be noisy and dusty. Pedestrian redirections will be in place – and these will change as the project progresses. The project is due to be completed in July/August.

Electrical Maintenance at Tonsley and Sturt

To meet mandatory compliance obligations and keep everyone safe, essential electrical safety maintenance will be carried out at Tonsley and Sturt through March. RCD (Safety Switch) Testing conducted between midnight and 8am will involve a brief power outage. Because Test & Tag of electrical appliances will be conducted both after hours and during business hours, it will require your appliances to be powered down for a few minutes. At Tonsley, E-Stop (the red laboratory Emergency Electrical Isolation buttons) will also be tested after hours from Monday 25th to Friday 28th March, in conjunction with the RCD testing.

What do you need to do? Save your work before you leave each day, and if you manage power-sensitive or critical equipment and require specific timing arrangements to minimise impact, please contact David Henderson.
