A key benefit of Flinders University’s move to Canvas is the introduction of New Analytics to inform teaching strategies and topic design. The analytical platform provides academics with Topic Insights to identify disengaged and at-risk students, enabling early intervention and support.
Topic Insights can assist students through the following key mechanisms:
Early detection and intervention: By viewing student data and weekly online activity reports, academics can detect at-risk students and develop targeted strategies to keep students on track throughout the topic lifecycle.
Assignment insights: Monitoring students’ academic performance with assignment insights allows academics to identify those who need extra support. Additionally, statistics available in the Classic Quiz tool provide insight into student comprehension and analysis of each quiz question.
Nudge protocols: By implementing a nudge protocol to encourage student engagement with key course resources, academics can enhance students’ learning experience.
To assist staff in learning about New Analytics, the eLearning Team has recently expanded the amount of information on Topic Insights included in their workshop, increasing the focus on engaging students and nudging them to take action towards active learning.
