Two major improvements have been made to the Extension Requests tool in Canvas – based on feedback from Flinders staff – which will now reduce the time spent processing requests.
Students can request additional extensions
If students have an approved extension, they can now request additional extensions. Key features are:
- Additional requests include a history of all previous requests.
- Both new and subsequent requests are listed together for easy access.
- All approved requests will update the due date of the relevant Assignment or New Quiz.
- If a subsequent request is declined, the last approved extension will apply.
Until dates
There have been issues where ‘until dates’ were removed when an extension was applied. From now on, until dates will be set for all extensions, equal to the time between the original due date and the original until date, when an ‘until date’ has been applied.
The following table demonstrates how this change will affect students. The below example showcases how this works for an original ‘until date’ that was two weeks later:
Original dates | Student A | Student B |
Due date: March 7
Until date: March 21 |
Extended due date: March 14
Extended until date: March 29 |
Extended due date: March 15
Extended until date: March 30 |
