An update from Learning & Teaching

Professor Michelle Picard, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching Innovation) explains what’s going on across the Learning & Teaching space at Flinders.

Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoTL) Symposium: practicing, disseminating, and recognising learning and teaching excellence

In a series of sessions, participants will be able to work on SoTL papers, start their Advance HE Fellowship applications, work on Teaching Award Applications and collaborate with others on research projects.

Speakers include Learning and Teaching leaders across Flinders as well as Professor Denise Chalmers (winner of the 2023 AAUT Career achievement award, and lifetime HERDSA member) and Dr Jo-Ann Kelder, senior editor of the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice and inaugural Australian Council of Deans of Science Fellow.

Face-to-face sessions will be held on 11 and 12 April at Bedford Park campus (online session on Tuesday 16 April). There are sessions for all staff – from those starting out in SoTL to highly experienced university teachers seeking national/international recognition. Enrol in the various sessions via iEnrol here.

E-learning support for staff

To help the Learning & Teaching team support teaching staff across Flinders’ multiple campuses, clusters of e-learning and media support officers have been added to the 24/7 support mechanism. Please refer to the eLearning support options document here for full support options and the staff servicing your cluster. As much as possible, staff are encouraged to work in teaching teams to ensure consistent approaches in using the LMS and its tools. The Learning Designers and ELMOS can arrange teaching team sessions for you to work on specific topics/issues.

CAULLT Grants

As a Council of Australian University Leaders in Learning and Teaching (CAULLT) member, Flinders staff are entitled to apply for small teaching grants up to $10,000. If you are interested in applying and have a topic that addresses leadership in learning and teaching, check the criteria here and connect with CAULLT representative, Professor Michelle Picard (michelle.picard@flinders.edu.au). Applications close on 22 April.
