Apply now for ABC Media Residency Program

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation is searching for Australia’s next generation of inspiring research communicators to take part in its TOP 5 – ABC Media Residency Program.

Each year, the ABC puts out a call to Australia’s higher education sector and research organisations to find the TOP  5 early research career PhD scholars in three categories: Science, the Humanities and the Arts.

The researchers-in-residence (with five per residency) spend two weeks working alongside award-winning ABC journalists and producers, learning first-hand about delivering audio, television and digital platforms.

The TOP 5 program now boasts more than 100 alumni, with many having become leading commentators in their fields and mentors for other early career researchers.

The program is delivered at no cost to universities or participants, thanks to the support of program partners the University of Melbourne, Creative Australia, the Australian National University and the University of Sydney.

Applications for the 2024 intake are now open and close at 11.59pm (AEST) Sunday 5 May 2024. For more information and to lodge an application, click here.
