Be aware of changes in car parks

Do you park in Car Park 5?

As part of our campus improvements, we are reinstalling parking detection loops at the entrance and exit of car park 5, adjacent to Oasis and the laneway. This will occur from 8am to 2.30pm on Tuesday 9 April, and it will disrupt different parts of the car park throughout the day.

Please note, the Flinders in Touch email stated these works will be occurring on Monday 8 April. The contractor has since advised that these works will now occur on Tuesday 9 April.

If you arrive before 9.30am and depart after 2.30pm, no action is required. However, if you arrive after 9.30am or need to depart before 2.30pm, it may be best to park in car park 1, 2 or 4 on that day.

Physical Sciences Roof Renewal Project – Stormwater Upgrade

Digging has started in Car Park 7 as the first stage of stormwater pipework being installed around the Physical Sciences Building. A trench will run along the northern side of Physical Sciences towards the cafe in Anchor Court. Please pay attention to pedestrian redirections.

Biology Transformer Project – Car Park 7

A crane will be in car park 7 on Thursday 4 April to lift the new transformer onto a concrete pad for installation.

Electrical Maintenance Program – Bedford Park campus

To meet mandatory compliance obligations and keep everyone safe, the essential electrical safety maintenance team will be back on north ridge during April to work in the following buildings:

·         Yungkurrinthi Student Engagement Centre

·         Health Counselling & Disability

·         Sports Centre

·         Health Sciences, and

·         Health Sciences Lecture Theatre Complex.

RCD (Safety Switch) Testing conducted between midnight and 8am will involve a brief power outage. Because Test & Tag of electrical appliances will be conducted both after hours and during business hours, it will require your appliances to be powered down for a few minutes.

What do you need to do? Save your work before you leave each day, and if you manage power-sensitive or critical equipment and require specific timing arrangements to minimise impact, please contact Luke Lilburn. If you keep appliances in secure cupboards or rooms please contact Luke Lilburn to arrange a time to have them tested.

Where is the Tenison Woods Observatory?

Behind Car Park 3 is the unused Tenison Woods Observatory, also known as the Bunker or the Vault. Built in 1977, it has been used by Geoscience Australia to support Adelaide’s earthquake monitoring systems – and now, as part of the Tenison Woods Observatory Reactivation Project, the existing collapsed retaining wall will be removed and the facility assessed for future use. While this is happening, several areas will be affected from 12 March to end of July 2024, so please take note of exclusion zones as you move through these areas:

• Pedestrian/cycling path between Car Park 3 and Bellevue Heights.

• Campus entrance point at Bellevue Heights.

• Car Park 3 overflow area.

HMRB’s busy month

PFD builders are making finishing touches to the Health and Medical Research Building, and staff who are moving in are gearing up, attending orientation tours, packing crates and attending preparatory inductions and training sessions. Staff from PFD, CMPH and CNHS have formed an HMRB Activation Working Group which meets regularly to consider plans, assess progress and contribute to ensuring a smooth transition for all concerned. For more information on the building, visit the HMRB webpage.
