Nursing lecturer receives lifetime achievement medal

Heather Keighley has been awarded the Northern Territory Administrator’s Medal for Lifetime Achievement at the 2024 NT Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards. The medal recognises Heather’s profound input through 40 years of distinguished service as a clinician, educator, manager and leader in all the regions of the Territory, in acute care, health development, primary health care, and as a senior policy advisor and chief nursing and midwifery officer.

At Flinders University, she focuses on student placement coordination and oversight as well as assisting with the Remote Health Practice Programs, supporting the Advanced Remote Nursing Practice short course, the Clinical Supervision Workshops and the Remote Health Experience.

Heather says she is passionate about developing well-prepared and well-supported nurses and midwives to care for the NT community: “I strongly believe that there should be more equitable and culturally secure health access for all rural and remote people across our country. I also enjoy student networking and inter-professional sessions and contributing to relevant research in the student placement and workforce development arena.”

Strengthening aged care innovations across Asia

Flinders University and Aged Care Research and Industry Innovation Australia (ARIIA), in collaboration with M.S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, are launching the Asia Pacific Aged Care Hub’s (#APACH) first International Policy Forum in Bangalore, India on Thursday 16 May. The forum is supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is part of the esteemed Australia Awards Fellowship Program.

The Asia Pacific Aged Care Hub (APACH) is a capacity-building initiative to strengthen innovations in aged care across the Asia Pacific Region. APACH aims to facilitate collaboration among individuals in the aged care sector, and to foster the sharing of insights and best practices at both systemic and grassroots levels to accelerate academic, research, industry and policy outcomes.

APACH includes collaborators spread across 13 leading organisations in six countries in the Asia Pacific region – India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines – along with our collaborators in Australia.

The inaugural APACH International Policy Forum is being held at MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore, India, with satellite hubs in Nepal, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia. Ministerial visit inspires students

The Hon. Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs, presents to Flinders students.

The Hon. Zoe Bettison MP, South Australia’s Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs, was welcomed to Flinders University this week to present an inspiring talk to our Bachelor of Business second-year students. Minister Bettison explored the vital role of embracing diversity and promoting multiculturalism in contemporary society. The students gained insights into successful initiatives that are supporting multicultural communities and fostering inclusivity. She also discussed challenges and opportunities associated with managing diversity, while giving valuable advice on creating inclusive environments in future careers. It was an special opportunity for students to learn and be inspired.
