5 stars (x2!) for the Drama Centre

A round of applause to Dr Chris Hurrell and the Flinders Drama Centre for receiving not one, but two, 5-star reviews for their Fringe productions – Gull – or – The Most Lamentable Comedie Called Love and Love is a Revolution.
Both shows were recently performed at the Holden Street Theatres, the centrepiece of a new initiative of Flinders Drama Centre, which sees Bachelor of Performance (Honours) students creating new and experimental works, and presenting an annual season in a public venue of the Adelaide Fringe.
Writing in Glam Adelaide, reviewer Adrian Barnes described Gull as a “joyous romp”, while Revolution was seen as a “perfect fringe fare”. You can read the full review for Gull here and Love is a Revolution here.
Flinders community’s role in new exhibition

Congratulations to staff, students and alumni from the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences involved in The Queen’s Wall, a newly launched public artwork at Adelaide’s Queen’s Theatre.
The project blends performance and smartphones to reveal the overlapping histories of mainland Australia’s oldest surviving theatre.
Designed by Mary Moore and Sandpit, the work was commissioned by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and delivered in partnership with Guildhouse.
The archival research that supported its creation was managed through AusStage, hosted by Flinders University, and originated with the Lost Theatres Project, with the artwork’s Story Research, Direction, and Dramaturgy provided by Flinders University Emeritus Professor Julie Holledge.
Alum Sam Haren directed, while Dr Alex Vickery-Howe was the project’s playwright, also providing voiceover work, with students from the Drama Centre featuring in the show’s cast.
