Flinders PhD awarded prestigious fellowship

Congratulations to PhD student Brad Darkson from the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences who has been awarded the prestigious 2025 John Mulvaney Fellowship by the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
A Narungga man, Brad’s research explores First Nations knowledge of seaweed management and coastal stewardship, combining science, philosophy, and art to empower Indigenous leadership in environmental care.
The Fellowship will support his international collaboration with First Nations communities in Canada and the US, culminating in a landmark interdisciplinary art exhibition.
“Art is an excellent way to communicate science and philosophy,“ says Darkson.
“First Nations communities should be at the forefront of environmental management and my research output will contribute to empowering Indigenous people to be leaders in this important work.”
