First Aid Coordinators wanted!

Flinders University is a dynamic and diverse environment, hosting thousands of students, staff, and visitors across multiple campuses, labs, offices, and student accommodation. With such a broad and active population, emergency preparedness is essential—and First Aiders are a vital part of the university’s emergency management system.

Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility. First aiders are often the first on the scene, offering immediate care and acting as a stabilising presence while professional medical assistance is on the way, this strengthens the University’s overall emergency response capability.

To support the extraordinary team of volunteer first aiders, we are currently looking for First Aid Coordinators to manage first aid requirements for the following areas:

  • MPH (Flinders Medical Centre; Health Science Building; Mark Oliphant Building; Margaret Tobin; Health Medical Research Building)
  • NHS (Sturt Buildings including gym; Repatriation General Hospital; RePaDD FMC Level 4)
  • IDS, Libraries and IS&T, Engineering Buildings

This opportunity is open to all staff; however, current First Aid certification is required, and you must hold or be willing to complete the necessary training. You must also be conveniently located to effectively cover the designated area of responsibility.

As the First Aid Coordinator you will be responsible for:

  • Completing First Aid Requirements Assessments, in consultation with staff and the health and safety representative for the area
  • Ensure first aiders in your area are current
  • Ensure that the contents of first aid kits are checked and maintained; and
  • Ensure that the locations of first aid kits are identified with signage which complies with Australian Standards.
  • Ensure automated external defibrillators in your area are present, working and maintained
  • Attend annual First Aid Coordinator meetings

There is an annual allowance for the First Aid Coordinator role under the Enterprise Agreement. If you are interested – please email Karen Hayden karen.hayden@flinders.edu.au (Senior WHS Advisor) by close of business 29 August 2025.
