We all want to feel safe at work and this is why Work Health & Safety (WHS) exists. WHS systems are designed to assist workplaces prevent injury and illness. Whether undertaking work, research, or study at Flinders University, the Work Health and Safety Unit have developed a range of documents to assist in safeguarding people’s health and safety.

So, what are these documents?

The Work Health and Safety Policy states the University’s commitment and intent. The WHS procedures are documents that define the University requirements to be followed to ensure health and safety risks are systematically managed, responsibilities and expectations are understood and there is a consistent and efficient approach across the University.

Procedures are based on legislative requirements, relevant Codes of Practice and Australian Standards. However, they are developed for the University’s needs in consultation with relevant stakeholders, including with Health & Safety Representatives (HSRs), College/ Portfolio Health & Safety Committees and subject matter experts. This is to ensure their relevance to the activities we undertake here at Flinders Uni.

Health and safety is everyone’s responsibility, and the WHS Policy and Procedures are part of our safety system here to help manage and drive a healthy and safe workplace for all of our people here at Flinders.
