Last week, the ARC Training Centre for Archaeology in the Resources Sector were thrilled to host a soft-launch event and partner workshop at the City Campus.
Awarded $5 million from the Australian Research Council’s Industrial Transformation Research Program in August, the centre will bring together Traditional Owners, resources companies, archaeologists and cultural and heritage experts, to train a new generation of cultural heritage professionals and create new approaches to safeguarding Indigenous cultural heritage.
Hearing from Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Raymond Chan and Centre Director Professor Liam Brady, the event also brought together representatives from PKKP Aboriginal Corporation, Palyku-Jartayi Aboriginal Corporation, Yandruwandha Yawarrawarrka, The University of Queensland, Southern Cross University, Terra Rosa Consulting, Niche, Australian Heritage Services Pty Ltd, Rio Tinto, BHP, South32 and Newmont Australia.
Together the diverse group discussed how future collaborations will unfold, with the conversations thoughtful, honest, and full of possibility. Based at Flinders University, the centre will be officially launched in 2026.
