Making sure research delivers for Aboriginal people

The second South Australian Aboriginal Health Research Accord was signed on 17 June marking another significant step forward for Aboriginal health research in South Australia.

Developed through consultation with Aboriginal researchers and communities, the Accord sets clear principles for how research should be conducted- centred on partnership, respect, cultural knowledge, and tangible community benefit.

By prioritising community voice, shared decision-making, and real-world impact, the Accord is shaping a more ethical and effective future for health outcomes in South Australia.

The signing event was attended by Professor Raymond Chan – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Dr Rebecca Bilton – Program and Research Director, College of Health and Enablement, Professor Gillian Caughey, Professor Simone Ulalka Tur – Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous), and Associate Professor Courtney Ryder –  Matthew Flinders Fellow and Associate Professor in Public Health, Indigenous Health.

Flinders University is proud to be a signatory and ongoing contributor to this work, helping embed approaches that ensure research is led by, and delivers for, Aboriginal people for the next ten years.
