Got an old University computer gathering dust? Drop it off and grab a coffee on us!
Flinders’ 2030 Sustainability Strategy has a focus on recovering high-value materials, including electronics, to reduce waste and support a more circular economy. As part of a campus-wide IT equipment audit initiative, we’re setting up a staffed kiosk where you can drop off any unused or surplus university-owned computers or desk phones you might have sitting around.
Staffed Kiosk
When: Monday 20 – Friday 24 July, 10am – 2pm
Where: Humanities Building Room 100 (Old Security Office) outside Central Library — Bedford Park
The first 100 devices returned at the central staffed kiosk will earn a complimentary coffee voucher (limits apply) redeemable at Café Bon Voyage (Flinders Laneway).
Can’t make it to the kiosk?
Additional drop-off points will be available from 13 – 24 July (9:30am – 4:00pm daily) Look for the e-waste tubs!
- Health Sciences Building, Room 5.15
- CSE College Office, Anchor Court Level 1
- CSE College Office, Level 3 Tonsley
- CHE College Office Sturt North, Room N102 (behind swipe access)
- Education Building, Room 4.07
Please note: Coffee vouchers are only available at the staffed Central Library kiosk.
What happens to returned devices?
All returned equipment will be securely data-wiped before being assessed by our team. There’s no need to worry about clearing files or removing accounts beforehand; we’ll take care of everything.
E-waste is one of the fastest-growing solid waste streams in the world, and it is increasing five times faster than documented recycling efforts. Any device that still has life left in it will be redeployed for re-use across the University. Devices that have reached their end of life will be responsibly recycled through certified e-waste channels.
What exactly can I return?
We’re accepting University-owned desktop computers, laptops, tablets and desk phones that are no longer in use. Please note that personal devices cannot be accepted.
If you’re unsure whether a device is University-owned, our team at the kiosk will be happy to answer any questions and help you check.
This is a great chance to free up some space, do the right thing by the environment, and enjoy a well-earned coffee, all in one quick stop.
We hope to see you there!
