A new electric bus has joined our campus fleet, marking another step in our progress towards more sustainable campus operations and providing a quieter, cleaner and more comfortable journey.
In line with our 2030 Sustainability Strategy actions, the electric bus is part of our broader approach to continuous improvement across campus operations. Practical changes are helping create campuses that are more efficient, resilient and enjoyable places to learn, work and connect.
Vice-President (Corporate Services) Jonathan Pheasant said the new electric bus demonstrates how sustainability and improved campus experience work together.
“The new electric bus is powered by renewable electricity. It’s better for the environment, supports our sustainability commitments and improves the day-to-day experience of being on campus,” Jonathan said.
“We’ve recently been recognised for our global impact in sustainability. I’m really excited to see our efforts continue to come to life through campus projects and improvements people can experience every day.
Whether it’s transitioning our fleet, investing in renewable energy, improving the performance of our buildings or creating more welcoming and accessible spaces, we’re delivering practical improvements that support our sustainability goals and make campus life better for students, staff and the community.”
The arrival of the bus comes as Flinders celebrates outstanding recognition in the 2026 Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings. Flinders achieved four top 10 global rankings, including #2 in the world for Good Health and Wellbeing, #4 for Reduced Inequalities, #6 for Gender Equality and #8 for Climate Action. These rankings recognise the University’s contribution to creating positive change through outreach and teaching, research, partnerships and operational stewardship.
If you’d like to get on board with the new electric bus, it’s currently running on the Station Express route connecting Registry Road (stop A) and Station Plaza on weekdays. For more information about our free campus bus services visit the campus bus service webpage.
