Cyber scams are becoming more convincing. This Cyber Security Action Month, take a few simple steps to protect your personal data.

October marks Cyber Security Action Month, highlighting the importance of good cyber security habits at work and home.

Take a moment to strengthen your cyber security by:

  • Installing software updates on your devices when prompted.
  • Using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and strong passwords.
  • Checking emails and messages carefully before clicking links or opening attachments.
  • Updating the privacy and location settings on your social media accounts and apps. Refer to this simple tool to check whether you may be oversharing personal details on social media.
  • Checking who can see your posts and personal information on social media. Setting your account or posts to ‘Private’ or ‘Friends only’ is usually the most secure option.
  • Reviewing camera, photos and microphone access on your devices and removing access that is no longer needed.
  • Reporting anything suspicious as soon as possible.

Remember to Stop. Check. Think. Act.

  • Stop: is this message unexpected?
  • Check: does the sender look legitimate?
  • Think: is there pressure to act quickly?
  • Act: if you’re unsure, report it.
