A team from Flinders NT has won an Australian Government Award for University Teaching.

Associate Professor Narelle Campbell, Dr Helen Wozniak, Associate Professor Sue Lenthall and Ms Annie Farthing comprise the team receiving one of the 2017 Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Associate Professor Narelle Campbell explained that the team’s citation was for ‘facilitating quality workplace-based supervision practice for health professionals in  remote locations through development and provision of context-responsive inter-professional training and peer review resources’.

“In a nutshell we are being recognised for the development and delivery of suite of professional development activities and resources to support doctors, nurses and allied health professionals who provide supervision to students undertaking work-based placement learning,” said Professor Campbell.

“Quality supervision in the workplace is critical to the development of our upcoming workforce.

“In rural and remote areas professional development is harder to access because of the distances, limited opportunities and complexities of balancing patient care with student supervision and professional development time,” said Professor Campbell.

Australian Minister for Education and Training, Simon Birmingham, announced the awards last week and extended his congratulations to each of the 89 individuals and teams named in the 2017 awards.

“This year’s Citations again highlight the capacity of the Australian higher education sector to produce individuals and teams who collaborate, innovate and inspire students to learn.

“It is entirely appropriate that we acknowledge and celebrate their accomplishments in delivering a richer, more engaging experience for students,” said Minister Birmingham.

Presentation of the awards will take place today, 19 September 2017, at The State Library of South Australia.
