On Tuesday, 22 July, the Flinders University campus came alive with colour, music and excitement as the International Student Services Team rolled out the red carpet for our newly commencing international students from all over the world.
From the moment students arrived, the atmosphere was electric. Warm smiles and friendly hellos greeted everyone as they stepped into a space buzzing with laughter, conversation, and music. Staff from across the University, both academic and professional, were on hand to meet and mingle with the newest members of our community, offering advice, encouragement, and a heartfelt “Welcome to Flinders!”.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
Students gathered around henna stations and arts & crafts tables, captured memories at photobooths and even got up close with native Australian animals – an unforgettable moment for many! Meanwhile, the stage lit up with incredible student performances, from captivating cultural dances to soulful songs that had the crowd cheering.
“It was truly heart warming to witness over 230 students from around the world feel welcomed by the Flinders community,” said Jose Paulino, Senior Manager, International Student Services.
“Our welcome event is more than just a welcome and celebration, it opens doors to meaningful friendships and connections so that no student feels alone on their Flinders journey.”
Representatives from student culture clubs and support services were also on hand, ready to connect students with the many ways Flinders helps them thrive. Whether students were curious about academic support, social events, or where to grab the best coffee on campus, they found friendly faces and helpful guidance at every turn. Among those kicking off their Flinders journey were many who joined us through Flinders University Academy, our dedicated pathway provider offering international students a supported entry into university life.
The Ultimate Student Pack
It wouldn’t be a Flinders welcome without some serious perks. All international students who joined us for Semester 2 received the Ultimate Student Pack – and trust us, it lived up to its name!
From stylish Flinders merch (think backpacks, caps, bottles, notebooks, pens and the ever-popular duck socks) to a generous stash of bar, coffee and gym vouchers, the packs were a hit. But the most heart warming part? A handwritten welcome note from the Flinders community, reminding students that they’re not just here to study – they’re here to belong.
Your Flinders University Journey Starts Here
As the event wrapped up, the excitement didn’t fade, it just marked the beginning. New friendships were formed, memories were made, and a new chapter officially began.
