The Library Annual Appeal

Even in this digital-age a strong university library is an essential and a vital component in developing better graduates. But today it is more than books on shelves and “Quiet Please”. The Flinders Library serves to provide equality of access to information.

For some students the burden of purchasing expensive textbooks can be a hurdle in achieving their dreams. The Library, with the help of its alumni and friends, is working to ease that pressure. For instance, last year the Library, with donated funds, bought two high-demand nursing textbooks in e-book format – each costing around $13,000. These two electronic textbooks provided open access to all nursing students at no cost to the students.

With over 700 enrolments in the Bachelor of Nursing there were nearly 9,000 chapter downloads. Each of these 700 students no longer had to purchase this book saving them $150 each. It’s a simple but essential way our Library made a difference.

This quiet club of catalysts is creating positive change for our students. Their donations to the Library Fund are making a difference.
