Unsung heroes on one of our rural campuses

We don’t often think about what happens in our office after we leave for the day but take a moment to celebrate the unsung heroes that make sure it is fresh, clean and tidy for us to return to.

In Renmark, Vicki Hume has been looking after the campus for five years and she shared what she loves about her work and living in the Riverland.

Vicki is a proud fourth generation Riverland woman, whose great grandparents were dairy farmers on the outskirts of Renmark, supplying to Fallands (in the days when we had local processors and the milk man delivered to your door).

Prior to her cleaning role at the Renmark campus, Vicki worked in family day care looking after children but decided to change careers when she found the “red tape” too demanding.

What do you love about your work? Vicki’s reply “Just coming in and making everyone happy, doing what needs to be done, to me that’s rewarding”.

If anyone is working late, Vicki loves to chat and shares stories about her family, three daughters and ten grandchildren she is so proud of and the new kitchen she is about to install. In her time away from work, she enjoys cooking and regularly delivers meals to her family who all live in the region.

Every Christmas and Easter, staff will return to their desks to find a gift left by Vicki, just to make us happy, home-made jam, chocolates for Easter and always beautifully presented with a personalised card.

Vicki is one of the unsung heroes on campus, a true treasure.
