CMPH vist to Cambodia

On Friday 28 October, while in Cambodia, Dr Jacqueline Stephens hosted a CMPH Alumni Dinner, as well as visit with several CMPH Alumni at their workplaces. This was a unique opportunity to learn how past Alumni have implemented the learnings from their Flinders University degrees into their public health careers to address key public health challenges facing the Cambodian population.

Amongst those at the Alumni Dinner were graduates of the Master of Public Health and the Master of Health and International Development. The dinner commenced with a short speech by Dr Stephens, providing an overview of the University’s recent success in international ranking, as well as the upcoming opening of the new Health and Medical Research Building, the ongoing success of the MPH and BPH programs, recent research grant success, and the recent expansions and increases in the Public Health Discipline, including increased employment of Aboriginal Researchers.

Each Alumnus was presented with copies of the most recent Alumni and Encounter Magazines, as well as a RAP pin, which generated much discussion about the University’s commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and reconciliation. The delicious Khmer dinner provided a rare opportunity for networking amongst the Cambodian CMPH Alumni who typically do not have time to meet outside of work.

Overall, it was a very jovial evening with much reminiscing as everyone shared their positive reflections on their time at Flinders University and living in Adelaide.

Dr Stephens stated it was a real privilege to represent CMPH while in Cambodia and to meet with this group of Alumni who she saw as doing amazing work in their organisations to address the social determinants of public health in their communities.
