The CMPH Gender, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (GIDE) committee held their End of Year Event on 29the November to celebrate achievements in 2022 and to share exciting plans for 2023. The Event was held across Flinders campuses including Bedford Park, Alice Springs, Renmark, Barossa, Victor Harbor and Darwin, with a Microsoft Teams link enabling attendees across multiple sites to connect simultaneously.

The GIDE committee celebrated the achievements of their multiple working groups including Leadership and Career Progression, Racial Justice, LGBTIQA+, and Metrics and Evaluation. Highlights from 2022 include the successful promotion applications of 7 CMPH staff who were supported by peer mentoring through the Leadership and Career Progression working group, and the amazing IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Lesbophobia and Transphobia) Morning teaorganised by the LGBTIQA+ working group that was attended by over 80 CMPH staff/students and received excellent feedback.

Plans for2023 include an interactive Anti-Racism Workshop (ActNow theatre), in which attendees participate directly in the performance, and a Reverse Mentoring scheme, where senior leaders are mentored by (and therefore hear the diverse perspectives of) more junior staff. CMPH Dean of Research Prof Peter Eastwood spoke at the EOY event and emphasised the importance of GIDE in CMPH core business.

Sarah Nicholas, who after several years of tireless service has stepped down from the Committee, was also thanked for her contributions. Sarah has demonstrated significant leadership on the committee and advocated strongly for professional staff, as well as providing substantial administrative support that has been crucial to the Committee’s work. Sarah always brings an innovative, creative and passionate perspective and the GIDE committee are very grateful to her.

The GIDE Committee looks forward to an exciting and productive 2023 working with staff and students across CMPH.
