CMPH Student Prize Celebration

Thanks to the generous support of private and public donors, the College of Medicine and Public Health (CMPH) is pleased to present a number of awards and prizes to Flinders University students in recognition of their academic excellence, achievements, and contribution to the University. 

Vice President and Executive College Dean Professor Jonathan Craig, Flinders University staff, students and their families were joined at the Alere Function Centre by distinguished guests including acting CEO Keith Driscoll and acting Operations Manager (Metro South) Bryan Ward from the SA Ambulance Service, Associate Professor Erin Symonds, the Liston Family, and Tom Sutherland’s Family.

Congratulations to 2022 Awardees

We congratulate the following students for their well-deserved recognition:

Chronic Disease in Remote and Indigenous Primary Health Care Prize: Mieke Polman-Short

Awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in the topic REMH8021 Chronic Disease in Remote and Indigenous Primary Health Care.

Outstanding Masters Graduate in Remote and Indigenous Health: Kerri Rothery

Awarded to the student completing the Master of Remote and Indigenous Health who achieves the highest overall grade across the duration of the Masters.

Bachelor of Clinical Sciences Academic Excellence Prize: Alisha Premanand

Awarded to the second-year student in the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences who achieved the highest-Grade Point Average over Years 1 and 2 of the course.

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Academic Excellence: Jaclin Ardill, Jordana Bakolias, and Ella Boxhall

Awarded to the student/s who has/have achieved the highest overall GPA over the duration of the course.

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Research Excellence: Sara Ataie Ashtiani

Awarded to the student who has achieved research excellence and demonstrated exemplary professional contribution in the topic MDSC3102 Professional Placement in Medical Science.

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Social Accountability: Kirsty Emery

Awarded to the third-year student in the Bachelor of Medical Sciences who has demonstrated a commitment to medical science, outside of their studies, by undertaking activities focused on addressing community concerns such as equitable access to health care and health education.

Michael Crotty Prize in Public Health: Catherine Devanny, Laura Handscombe, and Lana Mustafa

Awarded to the completing student/s in the Master of Public Health who achieves the highest-grade point average.

Maher Jedi Memorial Prize for Research Excellence in Biotechnology: Soroopan Sivanantha

Awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in their research topic.

Russell Liston Award for Paramedic Clinical Excellence: Joel Gregurev

Established in 2012 in memory of Russell Liston, an exceptional paramedic and a true professional. Awarded to the completing student in the Bachelor of Paramedic Science who demonstrates the most outstanding clinical excellence during their clinical placements with SA Ambulance Services.

Stafford Wulff Paramedic Graduate of the Year Award: Jemma Highet

Awarded to the student who is voted on by their peers and staff, for demonstrating compassion to all members of the community, courage and resilience to challenging life experiences, an unwavering level of energy and enthusiasm for life and for being genuinely friendly, whilst maintaining a high level of clinical skill and academic achievement throughout their studies of the Bachelor of Paramedic Science.

Australasian College of Paramedicine Award for Research Excellence: Tori Psichogiopoulous

Awarded to the student enrolled in the Bachelor of Paramedic Sciences who gains the highest overall grade in the topic PARA3004 Research Fundamentals for Contemporary Paramedicine.

Tom Sutherland Engagement Prize: Chris Clayson

Established by his family in 2020, the $500 prize is awarded to the student who is voted on by their peers and the Bachelor of Paramedic Science First Year Coordinator, for demonstrating commitment to their studies, passion for paramedicine, mateship towards fellow students and academic excellence during their first year of the Bachelor of Paramedic Science.

PhD / Postdoctoral Award: Ludovico Messineo, Phuc Nguyen, and Emmanuel Prikas

Awarded for excellence in publications, external/University awards, service to the discipline, mentoring/tutoring and/or outreach.

Honours Award: Isabel Tynan

Awarded to the top-ranked Honours student based on academic results.

Honours Award: Caitlin Allman and Rosemary Coleman

For excellence based on final academic results, and excellence in categories including Service to the discipline, External/University engagement or awards and Publications.

Russell Liston’s father Brian Liston, Joel Gregurev, and Bryan Ward

Thank you to those who attended the event, donated, or contributed to furthering CMPH student excellence through their teaching, student mentoring and educator programs.
