Flinders University Limestone Coast Roadshow (Naracoorte High School)

On Wednesday 5 July Flinders headed to Naracoorte High School to introduce high school students from across the Limestone Coast region to the pathways, opportunities, and courses they could study after their high school years.

The event was brilliantly organised by Travis and the OSR Pathways team and well attended with more than 150 students who chose an area of interest and participated in interactive sessions with academics, staff and current students. Study areas represented included Tourism, Palaeontology, Criminology, Medical Professions, Social Work, Plant Science, Biology, Arts, Business/Accounting, and Education. Students broke into groups for the sessions, ensuring they were able to participate in as many as possible.

Our Medical Professions area covered Medicine and the MD Rural Stream, Nursing, Paramedic Science, Medical Science/Lab Medicine, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy. MDRS students and those on placement in the area were on hand to share their experiences studying at Flinders. A highlight was the ambulance local SAAS staff brought into the room for students to explore and hear firsthand what it is like to be a rural paramedic.

A big thank you to Naracoorte High who hosted the event and the staff, Flinders students, and SAAS who generously gave their time and shared knowledge and experience, ensuring the event was such a success. Looking forward to seeing many of these school students at Flinders in the future!
