New FHMRI Director and Dean of Research (MPH) to start in December

Congratulations to Professor Billie Bonevski who is the new Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) Director and Research (Dean) in the College of Medicine and Public Health following an extensive national and international search.

Billie joined the College of Medicine and Public Health as Discipline Group Lead of Public Health in 2021. She is a Co-Director of a National Health and Medical Research Centre of Research Excellence (NHMRC) with over 25-years experience in health and medical research. Billie is an internationally recognised, multi-award winning research leader, attracting over $40 million in research funding which has led to policy and practice change and better health outcomes.

“I am humbled and incredibly excited to be given this opportunity to serve an institute that is uniquely successful in discovery, clinical and population health research.  I look forward to working with FHMRI’s outstanding research teams across our entire central corridor footprint to innovate for improved health.”

Professor Jonathan Craig commented, “Billie has a stellar research and leadership pedigree, who has the expertise and capability to expand the remarkable growth of our research to the next level, particularly as we transition many of our researchers into the Health and Medical Research Building in early 2024. We are excited that she will be one of a very small group of women who is head of a research institute in Australia.”

Professor Damien Keating will continue as Interim FHMRI Director and Dean of Research supporting Billie’s transition to her new role, which she will commence on 1st December.
